Good
progress on MUSE lab trials
MUSE is in its final project year. Several lab
trials are being integrated and shipped to the labs of providers for evaluation:
- Subproject B on Multimedia Broadband Access successfully
integrated its first version of a lab trial, which is now shipped to the labs of
T-Systems and Telefonica I+D for evaluation. It consists of a Service Plane that
allows to embed service enablers on an access node, a high throughput multimedia
enabled residential gateway, a video gateway, and a multi-service edge router
with SIP based session continuity capabilities.
- Subproject C, which addresses Fixed Mobile Convergence from a fixed access
point of view, successfully demonstrated nomadic service capabilities at the NOC
conference on the site of ACREO in Kista (near Stockholm) on June 19-21. The
set-up is currently being extended with session continuity functions based on
Mobile IP, which will be evaluated at TNO and ACREO.
- Subproject D on High Speed Distributed Access prototyped a novel concept for
distribution of content and network control functions. A lab model of an
advanced residential gateway features new multi-provider management
capabilities, which will be tested in the lab of Portugal Telecom Inovação.
- Subproject E on Node Consolidation developed an extra large PON with a split
of 512, reach of 100 km, and a burst mode transmission of 2.5 Gbit/s, which is
currently under evaluation in the labs of BT.
MUSE
at BB Europe 2007, Antwerp, December 3-6, 2007
MUSE plans to be present with a large booth at BB
Europe to show parts of the above mentioned demonstrators. There will also be a
MUSE Winter School co-located with the event. For the first time, the conference
will be complemented with a professional exhibition on broadband technology (cf.
http://www.broadbandeurope.biz/).
IMPORTANT: The deadline for full papers to the open
BB Europe conference is September 1st (for more info: http://www.bbeurope.org).
MUSE at the ETSI-Plugtest in Lannion, May 7-11,
2007
The ETSI-Plugtest was organised by MUSE partner FT
R&D. MUSE contributed with test requirements and a tool to evaluate the
connectivity features of residential gateways.
14th MUSE consortium meeting in Kista (near
Stockholm), May 18-22, 2007
More than 110 people attended the last consortium
meeting hosted by Ericsson. The task forces aligned views and explored
opportunities for standards contributions, while the subprojects discussed the
planning of the lab trials.
Some recent public deliverables
"Fixed Mobile Convergence support in a fixed
access architecture" (ref. DTF1.8)
The deliverable presents solutions for nomadism,
mobility with session continuity, and interworking with 3GPP and WiMAX mobile
networks to support FMC within the MUSE GSB architecture. Areas covered by the
solutions also include AAA, roaming, and policy control.
"Multimedia support in access
architecture" (ref. DTF1.7)
New functions embedded in the access architecture
are described to improve the deployment and Quality of Experience (QoE) of
multimedia services. The deliverable addresses monitoring, deep packet
inspection, distribution of Session Border Controller functions, lawful
interception, and methods to improve the QoE of video services.
"Test suite, for full-service end-to-end
testing" (ref. DTF4.4)
The deliverable provides an extensive survey of the
different test methods to evaluate a multi-service access network. It includes
the testing of DSL and optical physical layer, connectivity, quality of service,
and management capabilities.
Publications
MUSE was visibile with 12 papers at NOC in Kista
near Stockholm, a public MUSE Summer School co-located with the Mobile Summit,
