Specification of an advanced, flexible, multi-service residential gateway

PART 1:   Use cases, basics and general enabler description

Abstract:

This document describes use cases and enablers for a multi-service Residential Gateway (RGW). The multi-service RGW is a key element in the delivery of (triple-play, quadruple play and) multi-play services. It supports among others signalling, fixed mobile convergence, hotspot, access control and remote access.

This is the first part which focuses on description of use cases, the RGW block diagram, basic concepts and general description of the enablers.

PART 2:   Solutions and enabler descriptions

Abstract:

Part 2 describes an advanced multi-play and IMS enabled RGW, to be used in an IP based managed network, as a gateway in the home environment, and supporting FMC use cases like co-located hotspot.  A block diagram of the RGW is described, supported by the specification of a number of advanced functions and enablers.  Basic user types are defined in an FMC environment, and the functionality for supporting them is specified.  Specific functions needed for the RGW in an IMS environment are described and solutions for multi-play supported by IMS are specified.
