Resilience aspects in XL-PONs

Abstract: This document addresses the resilience aspects of generic XL-PON based systems, especially focusing on the non standardised Dual Parenting (DP) protection where every customer network terminal is parented to two geographically separated head-ends. It involves both the PON and the core networks. This work tackles the necessary actions in the PON to achieve an automated failure recovery. It proposes and briefly analyses five different ways of triggering the protection switching. In order to speed up the recovery mechanism this report also presents and briefly analyses five ways of interconnecting the two head-ends so the information needed for a fast recovery can be shared.
