Detailed requirement-based functional specification of gateway

Abstract: This document describes the requirements for a multi-service Residential Gateway in an xDSL Ethernet migration environment. Starting from the typical use cases which are applicable for such a Gateway, the different functions are described in detail. Taking into account the services, which will be delivered by the MUSE access network (voice/video/data/gaming/etc.), and the business models, which have been identified in SPA (NAP/NSP/ASP/etc.), an optimal home network reference topology has been identified. The topology shows that all Residential Gateway functions will typically not be integrated in one single CPE device. Part I describes the applicable use cases, the optimal home network reference topology and studies the impact of the home network technologies on the Access (or Routing) Gateway. Part II describes the detailed requirements of the Access Gateway (QoS, Multicast, AAA, HW architecture, Auto-configuration, etc.). Part III describes the detailed requirements of the Service Gateway. The concepts of virtual OSGi Service Gateways and JMX secure remote management have been defined.
